Frequently Asked Questions about Skydiving

Frequently Asked Questions About SkydivingQ: Why Skydive?

A: Skydiving inspires such complete focus of attention that all other worries, aggravations and frustrations are forgotten. It charges you with such energy , spirit, and vitality that can be lost through years of ordinary life. The mundane world snaps back with invigorating speed. Skydiving arouses freedom of spirit and attracts some of the most interesting people on earth!

Q: Is there an age limit for skydiving?

A: Yes. You must be 18 years of age to partake in any of our skydiving packages (proper identification must be provided).

Q: What will the skydive feel like?

A: It is nearly impossible to accurately describe. The sensation of freefall is more like flying than falling. The parachute flight is inspiring. This portion of the skydive can be anything from an exciting roller coaster type event to a serene flight around the open skies. Many say their skydive has been one the the greatest things that has ever happened to them. For some their skydive is life changing.

Q: What happens if the parachute doesn't open?

A: In the very unlikely event that the main parachute doesn't open properly, there is a reserve parachute in the top of the container which has been inspected and packed by an FAA certified parachute rigger. All of our reserve parachutes are equipped with the most reliable and modern A.A.D. (Automatic Activation Device) available, the CYPRESS. (Many other Drop Zones use lower end A.A.D.'s. Always ask about this!) Skydive Philadelphia utilizes this system for your enhanced safety. This is a backup system only.

Q: How long does the skydive last?

A: 45-60 seconds of freefall and 7 to 9 minutes under the parachute. Add that to the ride in the aircraft (15 minutes).

Q: Is there a weight limit for skydiving?

A: Yes. The weight limit at our facility is 250 lbs for men and 230 lbs for women.

Q: Can I get pictures of my skydive?

A: Yes. Still photos and video packages are available upon request.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: The cost varies with the type of skydive you make. We offer student, group, and military discounts. All prices are made available through our reservation line at 800.505.JUMP .

Testimonials
This was my first tandem jump done with SkyDive Philadelphia at their Perkasie location. I did not quite know what to expect, and I have a massive fear of heights, so the jump was a big step for me. Lucky for me, I got Pete S. as my instructor, and he was incredibly reassuring. He immediately instilled trust and a feeling of being safe. He talked to me all the way up, explained what to expect, and it was exactly what I needed. Even when we were at the edge of the plane ready to fall into the airy void, I felt sure that nothing wrong could happen to me. And that made the jump amazing. The calm that you get to experience after the parachute opens and you soar above all things earthly - nothing comes close to that. It's been three days since I first jumped, and I am itching to do it again.
